On 21 May 2026, the seminar “Museums and Games: Designing Experiences through Co‑Creation” brought together museum professionals, game developers, researchers, teachers, and representatives of the cultural and creative sectors to discuss the role of games and playful approaches in museums and digital cultural heritage. The seminar explored how games can support participation, storytelling, learning, and new forms of engagement in museum environments. Discussions addressed both practical experiences and broader questions related to digital transformation, co‑creation, accessibility, and the future of museums.

Presentations covered developments in the game industry, game design, immersive storytelling, the preservation of game culture, youth engagement and learning, and digital cultural heritage. Participants also examined opportunities and challenges linked to digital innovation, including sustainability, institutional readiness, and the need for long‑term collaboration models.

The seminar was organised within the Horizon Europe project i‑Game – Building a Community for the Co‑Creation of Games with High Impact on Innovation, Sustainability, Social Cohesion and Growth, which investigates how museums and cultural institutions can collaborate with game creators and communities through co‑creative digital practices.

The event also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation between museums, academia, the technology sector, and creative industries.

The seminar took place at the video game museum LVLup!, providing a symbolic and inspiring setting for discussions on game culture, digital heritage, and the evolving role of museums in contemporary society. The day concluded with the Estonian Academy of Arts’ Playformance event, which explored the video game as a performative and artistic form of expression, combining gameplay with live performance.
