Digital Humanities in Nordic and Baltic (DHNB) 2026: Special Focus on Museums

The DHNB 2026 conference "Lost in Abundance: Encounters with the Non-Canonical" will take place in Aarhus from March 9 to 13, 2026.

DHNB 2026 brings together critical and experimental perspectives on vast yet underexplored digital cultural materials that exist beyond established canons. The conference brings together scholars and practitioners to rethink how digital humanities can help identify, interpret, and work with overlooked texts, images, genres, archives, and cultural traces. Focus is on shifting attention from canonical datasets toward neglected, fragmented, or dispersed materials, and on reflecting critically on the methodological, ethical, and conceptual implications of doing so.

A dedicated seminar day on 9 March is focused on museums: Frictions of the Digital - Rethinking Innovation and Engagement in the GLAM Sector.

There is a separate call for presentations for this seminar day, with a deadline of 25 January.

The presentations should focus on the frictions, tensions, and everyday challenges that shape digital innovation and engagement in the museum sector. Rather than highlighting success stories alone, it invites critical reflection on institutional realities such as uneven digital readiness, sustainability, expertise, organisational cultures, and the ethical implications of digital cultural production. The seminar brings together researchers and practitioners to discuss how digital heritage practices are negotiated in practice, how innovation unfolds over time, and how museums and other GLAM institutions navigate expectations related to participation, technology, and public engagement.
